KATHMANDU, Aug 30: Nepal Telecom (NT) has introduced attractive volume based data packages under IP CDMA technology. The state-owned operator has been promoting the service under the ´Sky Pro´ brand. According to the new tariff unveiled on Friday, customers can get 500 MB data at Rs 200, 2 GB at Rs 760, 5 GB at Rs 1,700 and 10 GB at Rs 2,400 exclusive of taxes. The validity of these packages is one month. Guna Keshari Pradhan, spokesperson for NT, said customers will benefit if they purchase package of higher volume. Customers will have to pay 40 paisa per MB if they subscribe 500 MB package. Similarly, it costs 37 per MB in 2 GB package, 33 paisa per MB in 5 GB package and 23 paisa per MB in 10 GB package. “This is the cheapest data package available in Nepal,” claimed Anoop Ranjan Bhattarai, deputy managing director of Wireless Telephone Directorate under NT. “The main objective of EVDO is to reduce the digital divide between the customers of urban and rural areas.” Bhattarai further said this is NT´s attempt to provide best services at affordable price. He further added NT is focused on providing the service at remote areas as well. Issuing a statement, NT said customers can use the date packages in CDMA based smartphone and in other devices through EVDO Dongle. Currently, NT has been selling ´Sky Pro´ R-UIM card bundled with EVDO dongle. Customers can get EVDO dongle with 1 GB memory card, R-UIM card with Rs 100 talk value and 1 GB data very month for three months at Rs 2,200 inclusive of tax. According to NT, customers can enjoy voice telephony as well as data at the speed of up to 3.1 Mbps through the R-UIM card. Similarly, customers, who are using R-UIM cards that does not support IP CDMA network, can get new R-UIM card free of cost. ´Sky Pro´ is currently available in 48 districts of 12 zones. Bhattarai said the service will be available through the country before Dashain festival i.e mid-October.
