KATHMANDU: A 10-member Nepali badminton team, including eight players, is all set to participate in the Sushant Chipalkatti Memorial International Junior Badminton Championship to be held in Pune, India from September 4 to 8. The Nepali team leaves Kathmandu on Saturday. Dipesh Dhami, Bijit Thapa Magar, Suman Limbu, Santosh Khadka, Sawan Shrestha, Shiksha Shrestha, Shreya Pradhan and Ganga Bista will compete in the U-19 tournament. According to Nepal Badminton Association General Secretary Ramji Bahadur Shrestha, Nepal will compete in boys´ singles, girls´ singles, boys´ doubles, girls´ doubles and mixed doubles events. Jayant Kumar Shrestha and Samir Bahadur Singh are the coaches of the Nepali team. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama bade farewell to the badminton team amidst a function on Friday. Dipesh Dhami, who is currently training in Malaysia, will join the team in Pune. Thapa, Bista win road race KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Man Bahadur Thapa and Manmati Bista won the 5km road race organized by the sports department of Young Communist League (YCL), the youth wing of UCPN (Maoist), in the capital on Friday. Thapa clocked 17 minutes 52 seconds to win the race in the men´s section while Karan Khadka and Laxman Kafle finished second and third respectively. Bista clocked 24 minutes 1 second to win the race in the women´s section. Basanti Kumal Chaudhary and Shreya Bhandari claimed silver and bronze medals respectively. Likewise, Min Bahadur Chaudhary clocked 24 minutes 11.9 seconds to win the 5km road race in the junior section. Former Prime Minister and UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal gave away awards to the winners. Meanwhile, YCL felicitated karatekas Ganga Devi Adhikari and Sunil Lama as well as triathlon players Rajiv Gurung and Tika Ram Thapa for winning gold medals in their respective Asian-level tournaments.
