Thapa to stand for monarchy, Hindu state in polls

KATHMANDU, Aug 30: Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) Chairman Kamal Thapa has called for reinstatement of the constitutional monarchy and revival of the Hindu state to resolve political uncertainty plaguing the country. Speaking at a press conference in the capital on Friday, Thapa said, “We have proposed reinstating constitutional monarchy, Hindu state and introducing economic reforms in our election manifesto for the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) polls.” He also claimed that the party´s agenda of reviving the Hindu state has drawn a lot of attention and that a majority are still in favor of constitutional monarchy and Hindu state. Asked about the party´s preparation for the November polls, Thapa said, the party organization would be strengthened at all levels, including in the villages before the first week of October. Currently, training campaigns are under way across the country.” He informed that his party would hold a nine-day “national unity march” across the country starting September 11. “The national unity march would conclude in Kathmandu on September 19,” said Thapa. Likewise, the party is set to hold a six-day “door-to-door” campaign from September 28 across the country. “We are also holding a nationwide signature collection campaign starting from October 21. We hope a majority of the people would support reinstatement of constitutional monarchy and the Hindu state,” he added. On a different note, he accused the major parties represented in the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) of ignoring the concerns of Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist. “The four parties are imposing tyranny by ignoring the existence of the CPN-Maoist,” said Thapa. He asserted there must be participation of all the political parties for a meaningful CA election. Thapa also said that holding the election without participation of the CPN-Maoist would invite a disaster. “The government will be held responsible for ensuing instability if it does not hold a roundtable conference to bring the agitating parties on board the election process.” He claimed that his party´s agenda of reviving the Hindu kingdom and the reinstatement of constitutional monarchy would garner huge public support, particularly in the Tarai-Madhes region.
